✨I Got It! A New "Iroshizuku" Fountain Pen Ink: Rikka (Snowflake Blue) ❄️💙

It’s been a while since something made my heart flutter like this. 🩵 One of my favorite fountain pen inks, “Iroshizuku” by Pilot, has just released new colors—and I couldn't be more excited!

Since its debut in 2007, Iroshizuku (meaning “drops of color”) has slowly and carefully added new inks to the lineup. Each one is inspired by the beautiful nature and scenery of Japan. This time, three new shades have joined the collection:

  • Touro (燈路) – a lantern-lit path

  • Shungyou (春暁) – an early spring morning

  • Rikka (六花) – snowflakes ❄️

All three are lovely, thoughtful shades, but the one that instantly grabbed my attention was the blue-toned Rikka.

🌨 What’s “Rikka” All About?

“Rikka” means snowflake, and the name comes from how snow crystals have six sides. According to Pilot’s website, this ink is a cool blue color that captures the feeling of snow falling from a quiet, tense winter sky. Just hearing that made me want it right away.

I love the Iroshizuku blue shades, and each has its own personality. So naturally, I had to get my hands on this new one!

✍️ Let’s Try It Out!

I used a dip pen called “iro-utsushi” to test the ink. Right after writing, the color was a clear, bright blue—almost the same color as the pen itself. But as the ink dried, I noticed a soft greenish tint starting to appear.

It really felt like the color was showing me a cold winter night sky, full of crisp air and silent snowflakes. But even though it’s supposed to feel “chilly” and calm, I also felt a kind of warmth—like kindness or peace.

In my mind, I imagined snow falling quietly over a town at night, and soft lights glowing from inside cozy homes. Maybe a happy family is spending time together by the window, watching the snow… That peaceful, warm scene is what Rikka made me feel. 🌙🏠💙

🧴Mini Bottles & Matching Pens Are Here Too!

These new Iroshizuku colors are really popular—some are already sold out! 😲 I originally wanted the large 50ml bottle (¥2,200), but the store was out. So instead, I bought the 15ml mini bottle (¥1,100).

Until now, the mini bottles were only sold in sets of three, but now you can buy just one bottle at a time—yay! 🎉

They also released limited-edition iro-utsushi dip pens in five different colors to match the new inks, plus older colors like Yamabudo (wild grape) and Take-sumi (bamboo charcoal). 🌿🍇 These pens have a beautiful gold-plated nib, which makes them feel extra special. Of course, I picked the same pen color as my Rikka ink and chose a medium nib (M) for nice, smooth writing.
