Diary Time with Ms. Nakamura -Enjoying Planner and Fountain Pen
“That Person's Notebook Time" is a series where we take a peek into the planners and notebooks of stationery lovers.
This time, we spoke with Ms. Nakamura (a company employee currently on childcare leave), who enjoys daily planner time while raising her three children

Ms. Nakamura currently enjoys her planner time using five different planners and diaries: one childcare diary for each of her three children (one per child), a five-year journal for herself, and a system planner that compiles her reading logs and bucket lists.
"Writing in my planner helps me feel calm. It helps me organize my thoughts and reset my mind," she says.
Her most blissful moments come when she "miraculously survives" putting the kids to bed (we all know how easy it is to fall asleep with them), and then gets to spend quiet time alone with her planner, accompanied by coffee or a highball.
That said, raising energetic children (ages 4, 1, and 0) must make it difficult to find time for planners.
"Right now, I'm on childcare leave, so I can write in my planner while the older two are at kindergarten and the youngest is napping.
When I was working, I would carve out just 5 or 10 minutes in the morning after my husband took the kids to school and before I left for work.
The 'cute moments of my children' that I want to record in the childcare diaries are so easy to forget over time, so I make quick notes on my phone when they happen and later copy them into the diaries during planner time," she explains.
Ms. Nakamura says she has always enjoyed “writing time,” having kept a diary since her student days. Especially after having children, she found there were more things she wanted to write down and preserve.
It was around that time she became interested in fountain pens. For the past four years, she’s been passionate about collecting fountain pens and inks.
The fountain pens she currently uses daily are (from bottom to top in the photo above): the special limited edition “Shape of Heart” Vol. 1 of the “#3776 Century” by Platinum Pen, which features a heart inside the cap dome; the “Suruga Bay Spring Century” and “Sakura Gozen,” both original fountain pens from the popular stationery store “Bungukan Kobayashi” in her hometown of Shizuoka.
"I like writing a lot in fine lettering, so I always choose EF (extra fine) nibs," she says.
Her favorite inks include “Shizuoka Tea” from the “Shizuoka Ink” series by Bungukan Kobayashi, “Gunkanjima Sunset Gray” from the “Nagasaki Bkei (Beautiful Scenery)” series by Ishimaru Bunkyodo, and “Amalfi” from the “Clear Ocean” series by Shokido.
She also treasures an ink book set that contains the entire “Shizuoka Ink” series from Bungukan Kobayashi.
"I get bored easily, so once I finish using an ink, I wash the converter and switch to a different color to refresh my mood," she says.
Despite her busy days, Ms. Nakamura beautifully enjoys her planner time surrounded by her favorite items.
In the next installment, [That Person's Notebook Time] Vol. 4: Enjoying Fountain Pens with Notebook and Diary Time – Part 2, we’ll take a closer look at the contents of Ms. Nakamura’s planners and diaries.
